ABOUT ISLAMIC INSTITUTE OF AMERICA
The Islamic Institute of America (IIA), founded in 2015 by Imam Sayed Hassan Qazwini, is located in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Built on the generosity of community donors, the institute now serves more than one 1500 families from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The IIA is a registered not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, dedicated to promoting the teachings of Islam according to the traditions of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them).
Education is at the heart of the IIA’s mission. Through a wide range of spiritual, educational, and community-building programs, the institute nurtures faith, knowledge, and service. The IIA operates under the guidance of a Board of Trustees, Board of Directors, and Board of Education, comprised of professionals from various fields including education, law, medicine, business, and public service. The institute also runs an active interfaith office that regularly engages with churches, synagogues, universities, and civic organizations across the country to represent Islam and foster mutual understanding
In addition, the mosque proudly runs the Muslim Youth Connection (MYC) — a vibrant youth movement dedicated to nurturing the next generation of Muslim leaders. The MYC provides young people with a welcoming space to learn, reflect, and connect through faith. It empowers them to design and lead meaningful, high-quality programs that speak to the realities of modern youth while strengthening their spiritual identity and sense of purpose. Operating under the guidance of the Islamic Institute of America, MYC maintains a youth-led structure that encourages creativity, leadership, and responsibility — ensuring that young voices remain at the heart of community growth.
The IIA offers programs for both English-speaking and Arabic-speaking audiences, including Friday prayers, youth gatherings, Qur’anic tafsir classes, Sunday breakfasts, Ramadan and Ashura programs, and spiritual retreats. These initiatives continue to inspire and empower leaders devoted to faith, service, and community growth.
A Vision for the Future
As the community continues to grow, the IIA recognized the need for a larger and more versatile space. In 2022, the institute purchased a seven-acre property on Beech Daly Road in Dearborn Heights, not far from the current location. Construction of the new mosque began soon after and is expected to be completed by February 2026.
The upcoming facility will span nearly 60,000 square feet and feature a modern, state-of-the-art design—making it one of the largest mosques in North America. With over 500 parking spaces and a range of multipurpose halls, classrooms, and community areas, the new Islamic Institute of America will stand as a landmark for Islam in America and a beacon of faith, knowledge, and unity for generations to come.
